So here are a couple of my little secrets.
I sprinkle course or decorative sugar on top before baking. It gives a shiny top.
I add different ingrediencies to the recipe. Sometimes I add a teaspoon of finely chopped lemon rind or a 1/8 teaspoon of fresh nutmeg.
I have also added 1/4 cup of nut meat. Pecans, finely chopped or walnuts, finely chopped. However, before I chop the nut meat I put it in a small frying pan and bring up medium heat to cause the nuts to release their oils. Be care not to burn the nuts. If you do burn them start over because there is no way to save them and they will be bitter.
